After completing a three-game sweep last weekend, the IceDogs’ are one of the hottest teams in the OHL’s Eastern Conference, compiling a 7-3 record in their past ten games. The team’s recent success has been largely due in part to the overage line of Andrew Agozzino, Alex Friesen and David Pacan. In Niagara’s past three games, Agozzino has five points and was +7, Friesen scored six points and was also +7 and Pacan recorded four points and was +5.
Another shining star for Niagara has been goaltender Christopher Festarini. He has gone undefeated in his four games with the IceDogs, posting an outstanding 1.64 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. His most recent win was a 4-2 victory over Western Conference power, the Sarnia Sting last Saturday.
The IceDogs open their weekend with their first game versus the Otters at home this season, after playing their first game in Erie. Erie is a team in the midst of in their worst losing streak in four years, dropping 10 games in a row.
In their Thanksgiving Day game versus the Belleville Bulls, goaltender Teichmann turned in a strong performance against his former team, stopping 37 of 39 shots in a 3-1 loss. However, the remaining weekend games saw Teichmann encounter two consecutive games in which he allowed seven goals. In his first year with the Otters, Teichmann has struggled overall, sporting goals against average of 5.66 and a .864 save percentage in 13 games played.
Amidst all of the negative news in Erie as of late, captain Greg McKegg ended a five-game pointless streak versus the Kitchener Rangers on Friday, tallying a goal and an assist. Mckegg leads the Otters with eight goals and 24 points on the season.
