The Niagara IceDogs rode a hot start to a 4-2 victory over the Sarnia Sting on Saturday night, giving them six points in a weekend sweep.
Niagara got off to a great start for the second straight game, scoring three times in the opening frame. David Pacan would get on the board first, beating Sting netminder Ben Maxwell just over a minute into the game. Myles Doan would add his second goal of the weekend, and third on the season to extend the IceDogs lead to 2-0. Captain Andrew Agozzino would bury his tenth goal of the season to finish off the scoring.
Christopher Festarini got the start in goal, giving starter Mark Visentin a rest, and made six saves in the period.
The IceDogs kept the pressure on the Sting in the second period, but were unable to solve Maxwell. Sarnia got on the scoreboard late in the period as overage forward Brett Thompson slipped one passed Niagara netminder Festarini. Shots on goal in the second period were tied at eight.
Thompson would strike again in the third period, just under five minutes in, to cut the IceDogs lead to 3-2. Pacan would score an empty net goal, his second of the game, to pad the lead to 4-2 with 43 seconds left. Festarini was solid the rest of the way, making 19 saves in all, sealing the victory for the IceDogs and giving them a weekend sweep.
The IceDogs next home game is Thursday, December 1st as the welcome the Erie Otters to Niagara. Puck drop is 7:00pm.
