IceDogs Deep Six 67s

December 2, 2007

Luca Caputi records a hat trick and adds an assist to lead the IceDogs to victory

The Niagara IceDogs played host to the visiting Ottawa 67s, with both teams currently enjoying three and four game winning streaks respectively.
Something had to give in today's matchup. The question was whether the IceDogs three game win streak would come to and end or would the visiting Ottawa 67s streak end at three. The 2,382 fans that packed the Gatorade Garden City Complex did not go home disappointed as both teams played a hard fought game and in the end it was the IceDogs who kept their streak alive, extending it to four games.

For the majority of the first half of the game it looked like the Dogs were well on their way to victory, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead. Luca Caputi (19) got the IceDogs on the board at the 7:31 mark of the first period, set up by a beautiful pass from IceDogs rookie Matthew Sisca, who played one of his best games of the season. IceDogs captain Michael Swift (10) followed up with a beautiful power play snipe from the faceoff circle to beat Ottawa goaltender Adam Courchaine on the blocker side. Capping off the three goal first, Caputi (20) scored his second of the game, set up beautifully by Jordan Foreman on the give and go.

However, it was Ottawa who came flying out of the gates in the second period, as Cody Lindsay (6) and Jamie McGinn (14) scored for the 67s to cut the IceDogs lead to one. Andrew Merrett restored the two goal lead for the IceDogs completing the pretty passing play set up by Caputi and Josh Day. In the third period, the lone goal was scored by no other than Luca Caputi who tallied his third goal of the game for the hat trick giving the IceDogs the impressive 5-2 victory over the 67s.

The first star of the game was an obvious choice as Luca Caputi had a fantastic game, recording the hat trick and adding an assist. Andrew Merrett was named the second star of the game for his efforts, scoring a goal and adding two assists, continuing his strong play as of late. The third star of the game was IceDogs goalie Andrew Loverock, as he made several big stops on route to stopping 26 of 28 shots he faced.

With the win the IceDogs improve to 16-12-0-1 on the season while the 67s fall to 13-12-0-2. The IceDogs look to keep their winning streak alive as they travel to Brampton on Friday to take on the Battalion. The Dogs return home next Sunday, December 9th as they host their arch rivals, the Mississauga St.Michael's Majors at 2:00 pm at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.
