IceDogs Topped by Colts

December 5, 2009

The Niagara IceDogs were topped by the Barrie Colts by a score of 6-1 at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Saturday night.

The Niagara IceDogs were topped by the Barrie Colts 6-1 in front of a crowd of 2,830 fans at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Saturday.

The Colts got out to an early 1-0 after an extremely questionable penalty call against Matt Petgrave led to a Kyle Clifford power play goal at 1:45.  Barrie would extend the lead to 2-0 with 2:28 remaining in the first period on another powerplay goal.  The powerplays after one period would sit at the 5-1 in favour of Barrie.

The IceDogs would get back into the game 4:39 into the second, as Reggie Traccitto would give the IceDogs a powerplay marker of their own to bring the IceDogs within one at 2-1.  Unfortunately for the home side, the 2-1 score would not last long as Taylor Carnevale would tally to make it 3-1 for the visitors.  A shorthanded goal by Alex Hutchings with less than three minutes to go would make it 4-1 Colts heading into the second intermission.

The third period would be rather uneventful in the early, until Alex Friesen and Chris Wiggin went toe to toe at the 16:04 mark of the period, which would set off some tempers for the remainder of the game.  Dylan MacEachern and Matthew Baldassarra would also go on to find fighting partners with the Colts and Andrew Shaw started a war of words with Kyle Clifford that led to ten minute misconducts for each, preventing another potential fight.  After all the fights, the Colts would then choose to rub things in by adding a pair of late markers to make it a misleading 6-1 final.

The powerplays for the game were 10-3 in favour of the Colts, as the IceDogs certainly received no help from the officials.
