The Niagara IceDogs picked up a big road win Friday night, defeating the hometown Sudbury Wolves by a 5-2 final.

The first period saw the IceDogs come out flying as they struck three times.  Andrew Agozzino opened the scoring shorthanded, followed by a David Pacan powerplay goal and a Brett Ritchie even strength marker, giving Niagara a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.  Shots in the period were 18-4 for the visitors.

The second period would see a reversal of fortunes for the IceDogs as the Wolves would score the only two goals of the period, the second on a 5-on-3 powerplay, to cut the Niagara lead to 3-2 after two.  After dominating the first, the IceDogs were outshot 20-7 in the second frame.

In the third period the IceDogs would seize control once again as Freddie Hamilton and Myles Doan would find the back of the net to restore the three goal lead and make it a 5-2 final in favour of the IceDogs.  The final shot total would be 38-29 for Niagara.

Ritchie's goal would prove to be the game winner, giving him his fifth game winning goal as an IceDog, while Agozzino's shorthanded goal set a new IceDogs franchise record for career shorthanded markers and Mark Visentin moved his record to 13-0 in 2012.

With the win, the IceDogs move back into first place in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of the Ottawa 67's whose game with the Peterborough Petes was postponed.

The IceDogs close out their weekend by traveling to Sault Ste. Marie to visit the Greyhounds tomorrow night at 7:35pm.  The game will not be televised by TVCogeco so be sure to listen online with Local Sports Network Radio!
