The Niagara IceDogs head into the Christmas break as winners of four of five after picking up a big 3-1 victory over the Sudbury Wolves Saturday night in front of 3,053 fans at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.
Both goaltenders were kept extremely busy in the first period as Sudbury struck first before Steven Shipley tied it up on the powerplay to make it 1-1 after one period of play. Both goalies were excellent in the frame with the shots favouring the IceDogs 18-12 in the period.
The second period saw the IceDogs pick up two more powerplay goals, as Brock Beukeboom gave the home side the lead with a blast from the point, his first goal as an IceDog, before Alex Friesen would wrist one by Vienneau making it 3-1 heading into the second intermission.
The third period would see the strong goaltending continue as both teams were held off the score sheet to make it a 3-1 final for the IceDogs. The win moves the IceDogs to 19-12-0-3 as they head into the Christmas break and the half way point of the season.
IceDogs goaltender Christopher Festarini was solid again for Niagara stopping 31 of 32 shots for the victory. The IceDogs were led offensively by Beukeboom, Friesen, and Andrew Agozzino who each had two points on the night.
The IceDogs are now off until December 28th when they head to Owen Sound to take on the home town Attack. The IceDogs next home game is Saturday, December 31st vs. the Guelph Storm. After the game, there will be an open skate for fans to take pictures and get autographs from their favourite IceDogs.
The entire Niagara IceDogs organization would like to thank all of our fans for all of their support and wish them all the best during the holiday season.
