Freddie Hamilton scored twice and Mark Visentin earned his ninth shutout of the season as the Niagara IceDogs defeated the Barrie Colts 3-0 on Saturday night, moving passed the idle Ottawa 67's into first place in the Eastern Conference.
The IceDogs opened the scoring 17:35 into the first period as Hamilton would beat Colts netminder Mattias Niederberger with his first of the game. Ryan Strome and Jamie Oleksiak, would draw the assists on the play. Niagara outshot Barrie 21-7 in the frame.
Hamilton would strike again in the second period, this time on the power play, potting his 24th of the season. Team captain Andrew Agozzino and overage forward David Pacan collected the assists on the goal. Visentin made four more saves to stay perfect in goal.
The lone goal in the third period belonged to sophomore forward Joel Wigle, unassisted, ending the game at 3-0.
The IceDogs will now take their five game winning streak to Oshawa on Sunday for a matchup with the Generals. Defenceman Dougie Hamilton will draw back into the lineup Sunday night after serving his 10 game suspension. Puck drop is 6:05pm.
