The Niagara IceDogs are coming off a huge 5-2 win against the Sudbury Wolves this past Saturday, and look to carry that momentum through to this upcoming weekend as the face three tough Western Conference teams.
The IceDogs start the weekend with two games in as many days - first hosting the Plymouth Whalers at the Gatorade Garden City Complex Thursday, January 7 at 7:30 p.m. The Whalers have a strong team, ranking second to the Windsor Spitfires in the West Division. With a record of 23-17-0-1, Tyler Seguin leads the team and league in scoring, recently passing Taylor Hall due to his absence with the Canadian World Junior team. Fans can look for Andrew Fritsh and Andrew Shaw to continue their hot-streaks.
Niagara will travel to the John Labatt Centre to face the London Knights Friday night, also with a 7:30 p.m. puck-drop. The Knights have been a solid team for the past few years, and continue to prove themselves by ranking third overall in the Western Conference. London is without star forward Nazem Kadri (World Juniors), but their record still remains 7-3-0-0 in the last ten games. This game will be the first of two meetings between the two teams.
The IceDogs will conclude the weekend on Sunday January 10, at 6:00 p.m. as they visit another top-seeded team - the Kitchener Rangers. The Rangers are third overall in the entire OHL, and also have a 7-3-0-0 record in their last ten games. Kitchener plays a solid defensive game, allowing only 126 goals this season. Niagara will look to put pucks to the net and get an early lead, as the IceDogs, like many teams, are best when they are the first team to score.
Niagara will have to battle hard, but these match-ups should prove to be entertaining as the IceDogs will look to improve their record in thier effort to pass Belleville and Sudbury for a playoff spot in the tight Eastern Conference Standings.
Tickets for Thursday night's home game are still available, and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location. For more information, please contact the IceDogs office at 905-687-DOG1 (3641).
