The Niagara IceDogs enter into their final weekend of the regular season sitting in the 7th place playoff position, meaning they would face the Ottawa 67’s if the standings remain the same. With just three more games left, the Dogs will look to build upon the momentum of their three game winning streak as they look to possibly move up into either the fifth or sixth place spot. A fifth place finish would see the IceDogs match up with the Kingston Frontenacs, while a sixth place finish would mean a series with the third place Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors.
Mississauga visits Niagara this Thursday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Gatorade Garden City Complex. The IceDogs lead the season series 4-2, but they have been shutout twice by the Majors this season, both times at the Hershey Centre. Mississauga comes into the weekend on a two game losing streak, with a record of 3-6-0-1 in their past ten games. The two teams have built quite the rivalry since the Dogs moved to Niagara from Mississauga, and fans can always count on a close battle.
The IceDogs last home game of the regular season takes place on Saturday, March 13, with the puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. This time, the Dogs will play host to the Belleville Bulls, who are dead last in the Eastern Conference Standings. With a current losing streak of 0-6-1-0, the Bulls busy weekend begins Wednesday as they host the Oshawa Generals and will continue in Mississauga on Friday night, making the game in Niagara the Bulls third in four nights. Niagara will look to take advantage of Belleville's schedule and pick up two points against this struggling Bulls team.
The weekend concludes on Sunday, March 14, as the IceDogs visit the Mississauga St. Mike’s Majors for the second game of the weekend between the two teams. If the Dogs can pull off another three wins this weekend, they will finish no worse than sixth in the East, as the sixth place Peterborough Petes only have two remaining games in the regular season, and are just one point ahead of Niagara in the Eastern Conference Standings. Three wins combined with three Brampton losses and the IceDogs would claim the fifth seed. The IceDogs will once again be looking for the strong fan support from the Niagara fans who take a drive up the QEW to catch the Dogs play their final regular season game, but for those people staying home for the game, as always, you can watch the game live on TVCOGECO or listen on 105.1 The River.
Tickets for both Thursday and Saturday’s games are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location. For more information, don’t hesitate to contact the IceDogs head office at 905-687-DOG1 (3641).
See you this weekend!
