The Niagara IceDogs are still in pursuit of a playoff spot as they enter a challenging weekend, with three Eastern Conference battles beginning Thursday night.
The Dogs begin in Peterborough, as they face the Petes in a rare Thursday night away game taking place at 7:00 p.m. The Petes currently sit in 6th place in the Eastern Conference, and the IceDogs will look to bounce back from two losses to Sudbury and the Soo this past weekend. Peterborough leads the season series 2-0, but come into the weekend on a 6 game losing streak. The IceDogs will be looking for a win Thursday in order to stay in the race with Oshawa and Sudbury.
Niagara then travels to face the Eastern Conference’s first place Barrie Colts on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. Barrie has proven to be a difficult opponent to most teams this season, and with the acquisition of Alex Pietrangelo from the IceDogs, Barrie has a decent shot at making the memorial cup finals this year. The Dogs will look to upset the Colts and return home with some momentum.
The final game of the weekend will take place at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Sunday, January 28 at a special time of 12:00 p.m., due to scheduling conflicts with the Olympic Men’s Hockey Gold Medal game. The IceDogs will play host to the Ottawa 67’s, who have only claimed victory over the Dogs once this season. Niagara is undefeated at home while facing the 67’s, and hope to keep the streak alive as they need as many points as they can get to catch a playoff spot.
Tickets for Sunday’s game are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location. For more information, please contact the IceDogs office at 905-687- DOG1 (3641).
