IceDogs Outnumber 67's 4-2

Sep 28, 2012 - 18:06 EDT

The Niagara IceDogs defeated the Ottawa 67's 4-2 in Ottawa Friday night, moving their record to 3-0 on the young OHL season.

The first period saw the teams scoreless for the majority of the period, until Ottawa beat Christopher Festarini with just under three minutes left to send the IceDogs into the intermission down 1-0.  Shots in the period were 8-5 in favour of Niagara.

Coming out of the intermission Jacob Blair would replace Ottawa starter Keegan Wilson between the pipes.  Ottawa would help Blair settle in by extending their lead early in the period, scoring to make it 2-0 for the home side.  Niagara would carry the play for the majority of the second period and finally be rewarded for their efforts when Ryan Strome put one home after a great feed from Brett Ritchie 14:05 into the second to cut the deficit to 2-1.  Shayne Rover would then fire home a point shot shorthanded less than two minutes later tying things up at 2-2.  That would prove to be it for scoring for the period as the teams were deadlocked after 40 minutes.  The IceDogs were outshooting Ottawa 26-14 after two.

The third period would see the IceDogs take their first lead of the game as Ritchie continued his strong play, scoring unassisted to make it 3-2 12:22 into the period.  That would prove to be the only lead the IceDogs needed as Strome would add an empty net goal in the final minute to make it a 4-2 final in favour of the IceDogs.

Final shots in the game were 34-22 for Niagara, as Festarini stopped 20 shots for his third win of the season.

The IceDogs will now head to Kingston to take on the Frontenacs Sunday afternoon, before returning home Thursday, October 4th to host the Mississauga Steelheads at 7pm.  Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
