IceDogs Lose a Tight One 5-4 in KingstonSep 30, 2012 - 12:40 EDT
The Niagara IceDogs dropped their first game of the season, falling 5-4 to the Frontenacs in Kingston on Sunday afternoon.
The IceDogs would fall behind in the first period, allowing a pair of Kingston goals, while being unable to beat a very solid Mike Morrison, sending them into the intermission trialing 2-0. Shot in the period favoured the IceDogs 15-8.
The second period would see Kingston extend their lead as they scored a goal early in the period to make it 3-0. Steven Shipley would then get Niagara on the board, scoring his second of the season to cut the deficit to 3-1. Kingston would then strike on the powerplay to extend their lead to three once again at 4-1. The IceDogs would respond themselves however, as Ryan Strome would score with only five seconds remaining in the period to make it 4-2 after 40 minutes. Shots after two continued to favour the IceDogs, 34-22.
Strome would give the IceDogs just the start to the third that they were looking for, scoring his second of the night only 3:09 into the period to bring the IceDogs within one at 4-3. The momentum would not last however, as Kingston would answer right back only 30 seconds later to make it 5-3. The IceDogs would not give in however as Dougie Hamilton would score for Niagara just past the midway point of the period to bring the IceDogs back within one at 5-4. That would prove to be the last of the scoring however, as the IceDogs would be unable to beat Morrison again, heading home with a 5-4 loss. Final shots in the game were 46-34 for Niagara.
Despite the loss the IceDogs remain on top of the Central Division with a 3-1 record and will now return home after three consecutive road games.
The IceDogs welcome the division rival Mississauga Steelheads to the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Thursday night (October 4th) at 7pm. Great seats for Thursday's game are still available and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations!
