IceDogs Host Colts in Final Meeting of the Season

Feb 11, 2011 - 06:50 EST

The Niagara IceDogs host the Barrie Colts tonight at the Gatorade Garden City Complex with game time set for 7pm.  Approximately 350 seats plus standing room remain for what is the final meeting of the season between the two teams.

While the IceDogs and Colts are on opposite ends of the standings, the IceDogs know the Colts cannot be taken lightly, having lost to the Colts once already this season.  The Colts also are coming off a strong game Thursday night where they carried a lead into the third period before falling to the OHL leading Mississauga St. Michael's Majors.

The matchup is also always a fun one with former players on both teams.  Barrie features former IceDogs goaltender John Chartrand, while the IceDogs feature former Barrie head coach Marty Williamson, as well as former Colts players Darren Archibald, Dalton McGrath and Ryan Strome.  Combine this with the fact the teams play six times a year as Central Division rivals, and the familiarity between the teams always leads to an enjoyable matchup.

The game is also an important one for both teams, as the IceDogs look to inch closer with Mississauga for the division and league lead, while the Colts look to gain ground on Belleville and Peterborough as they look to make a push for a playoff position in hopes of continuing their streak of never having missed the playoffs.

After tonight's game, the IceDogs will have the day off on Saturday before making a trip down the QEW to visit the division rival Brampton Battalion in Brampton on Sunday afternoon at 2pm.

Attending tonights game will be the only opportunity for fans to see the game live, as TVCogeco will not be broadcasting the game live due to their coverage of the Ontario Men's Curling Championships.  The game will be shown instead on a tape delay at 10:30pm.  A similar situation is occuring for Sunday's game, with TVCogeco showing the game on tape delay at 9pm, although Sunday's game will be available live on the Super Sports Pack.  Both games will be broadcast on 105.1 the River live as usual.
