IceDogs Enter Important Weekend in Playoff Push

February 10, 2010

The Niagara IceDogs will begin their five game Eastern Conference stint this weekend as they prepare to do battle with three East Division teams in as many days.

The Niagara IceDogs will begin their five game Eastern Conference stint this weekend as they prepare to do battle with three East Division teams in as many days.

The weekend will kick-off Thursday, February 11, at 7:30 p.m. as the IceDogs play host to the Oshawa Generals at the Gatorade Garden City Complex. The two teams have faced each other only once this year – Oshawa took a close 4-3 victory on November 29. Sitting just five points ahead of Niagara in the Eastern Conference rankings, Oshawa is coming into the weekend on a five game losing streak, and the IceDogs will look to capitalize against this struggling Generals team.

Niagara is back at it again on Friday, February 12 as they visit Doug Gilmour and the Kingston Frontenacs, also with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop. Kingston had their way with the IceDogs when they last visited the Gatorade Garden City Complex on Sunday, January 31 as they took home a 5-1 win. Niagara will look to bounce back and avenge their loss to the Fronts when they travel to Kingston Friday night.

The busy weekend will end on Saturday, February 13, when the IceDogs visit the Belleville Bulls with the puck drop set for 7:05 p.m. Belleville has been another important rival for the IceDogs this season, as the two teams have been neck-and-neck in the Eastern Conference standings. Niagara currently has the slight edge on the Bulls in the rankings, and they hope to increase their lead by having success in their three game stretch.

The IceDogs are coming off a weekend where they faced two of the leagues toughest teams, and the Dogs showed up for both games. Mark Visentin, Freddie Hamilton, and Andrew Agozzino have really been stepping it up for the IceDogs, along with Andrew Shaw and Alex Friesen helping out with the Dogs physical game. These leaders will need to continue their efforts to help the Dogs gain as many points in the standings as they can this weekend.

Tickets for Thursday’s game are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location. For more information, please contact the IceDogs office at (905) 687 DOG1 (3641).
