The Niagara IceDogs were defeated by the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors 2-1 for the second time this weekend. The IceDogs played exceptionally well in both games, but couldn’t quite squeak by the Majors in what proved to be two close games.

The first period was scoreless, as both goaltenders stood their ground to keep the game even going into the first intermission.

The IceDogs opened the scoring at the 6:18 mark of the second period. The 4th line got it going again for Niagara, as Mitchell Theoret picked up his second assist in as many nights to set up Matt Petgrave, who netted his 6th goal of the season. Michael Hasson also recorded an assist on the play, and the IceDogs took a 1-0 lead.

Mississauga answered back shortly after on the power play as Blake Parlett put one past Mark Visentin to tie the game 1-1.

The Majors took the next lead as Devante Smith-Pelly did some solid work in the IceDogs zone, which led to a goal by Jordan Mayer, giving the game a score of 2-1 after 40 minutes of play.

The third period was also scoreless; the IceDogs pulled Visentin late in the period in efforts to tie the game, but Mississauga’s solid defense allowed them to hold on to their 2-1 lead for the win.

Mark Visentin has continued to be solid for the IceDogs, as he has only let in three goals in the last three games played.

The Sudbury Wolves also lost today in overtime to the Ottawa 67's, which means that the IceDogs will face Ottawa in the first round of the 2010 OHL playoffs, and the Wolves will face the Barrie Colts.

The playoff schedule will be released early this week, so keep posted and get ready to purchase your playoff tickets!
