The Niagara IceDogs lost a tightly contested game 3-2 to the Kingston Frontenacs on Saturday night.
Kingston opened the scoring just over a minute into the game as Alcock slipped one passed Niagara netminder Christopher Festarini. The IceDogs answered only nine seconds later on a goal by Steven Shipley, his third in the last two games.
With the goal, over 1500 stuffed animals rained down on the ice as part of the Niagara IceDogs annual Teddy Bear Toss in support of Victim Service Niagara.
The rest of the period was scoreless, sending the game into the first intermission tied 1-1.
Kingston broke the tie at the 15:30 mark of the second period, receiving the go ahead goal from Kyler Nixon. That lead did not last long again however, as Luke Mercer found the back of the net 18 seconds later, his second of the season. The score would remained knotted at two after two periods.
Once again, the Frontenacs jumped ahead on a goal from Alex Gudbranson, making it 3-2. This time however, they did not relinquish the lead as the IceDogs were turned away repeatedly by Kingston netminder Igor Bobkov.
Special Note: The St. Catharines Mayor Brian McMullan and members of city council were in attendance to perform the ceremonial puck drop. They were greeted by a warm ovation from the crowd gathered at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.
The Niagara IceDogs next home game is Thursday, December 15th against the Erie Otters. Great seats are still available. To purchase tickets, contact the Niagara IceDogs office at 905-687-3641.
