Mark Visentin scored and picked up the victory as the Niagara IceDogs took a 2-1 series lead over the Ottawa 67's with a 5-2 win in Ottawa on Monday night!
The first period saw Ottawa strike first as they picked up the only goal of the period to make it 1-0 after one. Shots in the period favoured Ottawa 15-10.
Mitchell Theoret would get the IceDogs even quickly in the second, knocking home a rebound in front to tie it up at 1-1 only 20 seconds into the period. Ottawa would then retake the lead at 2-1 with a shorthanded goal just over four minutes later. The IceDogs would continue to battle however and Dougie Hamilton would fire one home to tie things back up at 2-2. That would prove to be the score after 40 minutes as the teams headed into the third all tied up
Theoret would continue his strong game and series striking only 13 seconds into the third to give the IceDogs their first lead of the game at 3-2. Niagara would not stop there, as Andrew Agozzino would bat one home just over a minute later to extend the lead to 4-2. The IceDogs would clamp down from there keeping the score at 4-2 until, with 38 seconds left, Visentin would launch a shorthanded clearing shot from behind his own net and into the empty net for his first career OHL goal, making it a 5-2 final in favour of the IceDogs.
Visentin was solid in the victory stopping 22 shots to go along with his goal, while Theoret had two goals including the game winner.
The teams will return to action on Wednesday night as the IceDogs will hope to keep the momentum as they play game four in Ottawa, before returning home for game five on Friday.
