IceDogs & Badgers Wrap Up Coach4Food Program

December 22, 2011

For Immediate Release

The Niagara IceDogs, in partnership with the Brock Badgers, have concluded the 2011 edition of Coach4Food initiative.  In total, the minor hockey teams from across the Niagara region collected 7990.5 lbs in food and cash equivalent donations.

The Coach4Food program was started by Tom Hedican in North Bay in 2005 and has grown from raising 1,000 pounds of food the first year, to an amazing 116,000 pounds of food a year ago.  The IceDogs were proud to be among the teams selected by Tom to join in this program as it expanded outside of North Bay for the first time this year.  The expansion was made possible by a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The way this program was setup was the IceDogs and Badgers worked with local minor hockey teams to help collect food and cash donations to go to local food banks.  In return, the IceDogs and Badgers worked together to help provide some great incentives for minor hockey teams to participate.

At this time, the IceDogs would like to recognize the Niagara North Stars Minor Peewee AAA team as the top fundraising team in all of Niagara, collecting an impressive 2520.5lbs of food and cash equivalent donations.  The top individual fundraiser was Adam McMaster who raised 1217.5lbs on his own.

Congratulations to both the Niagara North Stars Minor Peewee AAA team and Adam McMaster for their efforts, making the inaugural Coach4Food initiative a success.

The Coach4Food program kicked off Monday, October 31st and donations were accepted up until Monday, December 19th, spanning almost two months.

The Niagara IceDogs believe that this is a great initiative, and were proud to be a part of it.  We look forward to helping grow the program outside of North Bay and into the Niagara region for years to come.
