Hamilton and Canadians Bring Home 3rd Straight U18 Gold

August 14, 2010

Dougie Hamilton and the Under-18 Canadian hockey team have taken the Gold Medal at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament, defeating the United States 1-0.

IceDogs defenceman Dougie Hamilton and the Under-18 Canadian hockey team have taken the Gold Medal at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament this morning in Piestany, Slovakia, defeating the United States 1-0.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored the only goal for the Canadians, opening the scoring only 1:42 into the first period.  Goaltender Tyson Teichmann and the Canadian defence would take it from there, making the 1-0 lead hold up as Teichmann made 22 saves for the only shutout of the tournament.

The victory for Canada is their third straight Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament victory and gives them 6 victories in their last 7 trips to the tournament.

The 1-0 victory over the Americans was by far the biggest test of the tournament for the Canadians who outscored their opponents 26-9 overall in their five tournament games.  The Canadians have also now won 13 straight Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament games, having gone undefeated in each of their three straight tournament titles.

The entire IceDogs organization would like to congratulate Dougie and Team Canada on their victory!
