The Niagara IceDogs struggles continued tonight against the Oshawa Generals as they fell by a final score of 7-2 in front of a boisterous crowd at General Motors Centre in Oshawa. Not even a bus load of IceDogs fans who made the trip down to Oshawa could help the Dogs to victory, in a game dominated by the Generals from start to finish.
Oshawa jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by the Generals one-two punch of John Tavares (23) and Brett MacLean (26). After Dean Howard (6) put the Generals up 3-0 at the 3:33 mark of the second period, the IceDogs fought back to pull within one, on goals by Luca Caputi (16) and Jason Bergeron (2). Newly acquired General, Patrick Asselin (10) added a goal at the 12:29 mark to but his team up 4-2 headed into the third.
The Generals broke the game wide open in the third period, scoring three unanswered goals by Justin Shugg (3), Jeff Hayes (2), and Brett Parnham (9) to give themselves the impressive 7-2 victory over the IceDogs.
A particular highlight in this game was the play of Oshawa Generals rookie forward Justin Shugg who scored his third goal of the season and added two assists. Shugg is a native of Niagara Falls and he was the Generals number one selection in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection. Justin was named the first star of the game and was a big part of the Generals victory tonight.
With the loss the IceDogs fall to 12-11-0-1 on the season while the Generals improve to 14-7-0-2. The IceDogs will look to snap their season high five game winless streak when they travel to Ottawa Friday November 23rd to take on the 67s. The IceDogs next home game is Sunday November 25th against the visiting Owen Sound Attack at 2:00 pm at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.
