'Dogs Ready to Battle Wolves on Halloween Theme Night

October 28, 2011

Niagara will try to keep the streak alive on Saturday when the Sudbury Wolves come to town.

The IceDogs received solid goaltending from Christopher Festarini on Thursday night en route to a 4-1 victory over the Brampton Battalion.  Niagara will attempt to extend their winning streak to five games on Saturday night when they host the Sudbury Wolves.

In their last meeting, the Wolves narrowly escaped with a shootout victory over an IceDogs team missing Ryan Strome and Mark Visentin, among others.  Now that the IceDogs are back to full strength, Sudbury can expect to face a much stronger and competitive Niagara team.

The Wolves will enter Saturday’s contest with a depleted roster, as six of their players will be out of the lineup for at least a week.  Impact players missing from the Wolves include right winger Sam Schutt, who played in 65 games last season and overage defenseman Josh McFadden, who recorded 72 points in 67 games last season for Sudbury.

There have been some positives for the Wolves, however, as the team’s leading scorer, Michael Sgarbossa, has started where he left off last season, notching 14 points in 12 games, after scoring a career high 82 points in 63 games a year ago.  For his great start to the season, he has been added to the Team OHL roster for the Subway Super Series game in Sault Ste. Marie.

Swedish goaltender Johan Mattsson has provided the Wolves with some stability in net, posting a respectable 2.98 goals against average and .905 save percentage.

Also, a reminder that Saturday night is the Niagara IceDogs Halloween Game.  Children are encouraged to dress up in their costumes and take part in a parade during the second intermission.  Each participant will received a goody bag compliments of the team.

There are 200 seats, plus standing room, available for tomorrow night's game.  You can purchase your tickets at the Niagara IceDogs office, located at 35 Queen Street in St. Catharines, the customer service desks at the Pen Centre and Seaway Mall, or at www.ticketmaster.ca.
