The CHL is converging on Brandon, Manitoba as the Wheat Kings prepare to host the OHL Champion Windsor Spitfires, WHL Champions the Calgary Hitmen and QMJHL Champions Moncton Wildcats in the 2010 Memorial Cup, which gets underway on Friday.
The field was finally completed on Monday, with the Wildcats knocking off the Saint John Sea Dogs 7-4 to take the QMJHL final four games to two.
Windsor made the Memorial Cup for the second straight year by winning their second straight OHL title, sweeping OHL regular season champions and the top ranked team in the CHL, the Barrie Colts 4-0 in the OHL Final.
Calgary is in the tournament as WHL champs, having knocked off the Tri-City Americans four games to one in the WHL final.
Brandon made the tournament as the host team, having lost to the Hitmen in the WHL Eastern Conference final by a four games to one margin.
All four teams have certainly earned their place in the tournament and none of the teams were a shock to qualify for the tournament, with all four teams placing among the top seven in the CHL's final regular season rankings.
The tournament looks to be a hard fought battle, with the Spitfires looking to defend their Memorial Cup title, while the Wheat Kings, Hitmen and Wildcats all look to pick up their first Memorial Cup title.
The tournament gets underway with the Wheat Kings hosting the Spitfires to open the tournament on Friday night at 8pm EST. The round robin will then continue through until Wednesday, with any tie breaking game being played on Thursday if necessary, followed by the Semi-Final on Friday and the final on Sunday. All weekday games start at 8pm EST, while weekend games are a 3pm EST start. In Canada the Memorial Cup tournament will be broadcast on TV by Rogers Sportsnet.
