The Canadian Under-18 Men's Hockey team has wrapped up a disappointing IIHF World U18 Championship with a seventh place finish, thanks to a 4-2 victory over Slovakia on Thursday.
While the team's performance as a whole may have been somewhat disappointing, the performance of IceDogs forward Freddie Hamilton was one of the bright spots.
The 18 year old finished the tournament tied for third in scoring on the Canadian squad, with six points (one goal and five assists), in six games. Hamilton was also excellent in the faceoff circle, finishing second on Canada with 39 faceoff wins, to go along with a 55.71% faceoff percentage. For the tournament, Hamilton was a +5 and provided excellent two way play for the Canadians. Hamilton was also named player of the game for Canada in a tough 5-0 loss to the Americans in the round robin.
In recognition of his play, Hamilton, along with Ryan Murray and Quinton Howden, was named one of Canada's top players in the tournament. Canadian coach Guy Carbonneau said he was impressed by those three players.
"(The players) have to really become a team really quickly and these three guys really helped us do that," Carbonneau said. "They made it a lot easier and I'm sure it's going to be a good learning (experience) for the other guys."
The IceDogs would like to congratulate Freddie on his solid play at the U18 tournament.
