Canada Blanks Finland, Wins Bronze Medal

January 6, 2012

Canada won bronze at the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship with a 4-0 win over Finland.

Niagara IceDogs goaltender Mark Visentin recorded a shutout in Canada's 4-0 victory over Finland, as they claimed the bronze medal.  Niagara teammates Freddie and Dougie Hamilton collected three assists between them.

Canada opened the scoring on a powerplay, as Barrie teammates Mark Schiefele and Tanner Pearson connected on the goal.  Dougie Hamilton picked up the second assist.

The pair would connect again in the second period, this time with Scheifele beating the Finnish netminder, making it a 2-0 Canadian lead.

Quinton Howden would extend the lead to three goals in the final minute of the second period on a pass from Freddie Hamilton.

In the third, Howden scored his second goal of the game, again assisted by Freddie Hamilton, to make it 4-0.

Mark Visentin made 27 saves for the shutout, earning Player of the Game honours for Canada.
