The Niagara IceDogs were able to come up with a spirited 4-3 shootout win over Owen Sound on Thursday night, as Freddie Hamilton had a goal and an assist including the shootout winner, with the IceDogs improving to 3-4-2-1.

Mark Visentin was tested early and often when Joey Hishon pounced on a turnover just seven seconds into the game forcing the Niagara netminer to come up with a dazzling right pad save.

Alex Friesen looked to open the scoring on a spectacular play where he raced down the wing an put it under the crossbar, but to the dismay of the fans and IceDogs bench, Friesen was called for goaltender interference and handed a two-minute minor instead of his 7th goal of the season.

Another Niagara goal fell into question when Chris DeSousa looked to bang home a power play marker at the 14:55 mark, but after video review as the IceDogs had their second would-be goal taken off the board when it was determined that the puck didn't cross the line.

In about as eventful of a scoreless period as you will find, the IceDogs were forced to kill of four Attack power plays as Owen Sound outshot Niagara 9-7 after twenty minutes of play.

The IceDogs were finally able to score a goal that held up, as Andrew Agozzino picked up his 7th marker of the season by banging one past Stajcer. Joes Moes was able to pick up an assist on the play, as he played his first game against Owen Sound since they traded him earlier this month to Niagara.

After A Friesen tripping minor sent Owen Sound to the power play, Visentin was forced to make his second sensational stop of the game, as we went post-to-post to make a toe save on Steven Shipley.

Owen Sound was able to draw even when Geoffrey Schemitsch walked in and ripped one from the top of the circle past a screened Visentin making it 1-1 at the 15:47 mark.

Owen Sound was able to jump out in front with 15 seconds left in the second frame, as Hishon started a 1 on 3 rush and backhanded a spectacular short handed goal past Visentin making it 2-1 after forty minutes.

The IceDogs were able to even the game at two, as Freddie Hamilton pounced on a rebound and rifled it fivehole on Stajcer.  Matt Petgrave picked up his first OHL point by drawing the assist.

The Game didn't stay tied for long, as Owen Sound was able to jump out in front when Jason Wilson scored on a beautiful individual effort that ended with him shelfing his 1st of the season making it 3-2 Owen Sound.

After the IceDogs couldn't convert on a 5-on-3 power play, Owen Sound's Shipley was hauled down on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot, where Visentin was able to make a seeminly effortless save.

Visentin's efforts proved to be monumental, as the IceDogs drew even at the 11:37 mark when Chris DeSousa jumped on a rebound to even the game at three with Friesen picking up the helper.

Both goaltenders were able to come up with saves in the final minutes of the game, as the see-saw battle was forced to go into overtime locked up at three.

The extra session produced several chances that were worthy of ending the game, including a few productive efforts from Friesen and Freddie Hamilton.  Sixty-five minutes wasn't enough to decide an outcome, as the game was forced into a shootout.

Agozzino and Freddie Hamilton were able to light the lamp in the shootout as both Attack shooters came up empty, finalizing a 4-3 IceDogs win.

The IceDogs are right back at it tomorrow night as they travel to the Hershey Centre in Mississauga to go at it with the Majors.  The Dogs are back home on Saturday night for a 7:00 p.m. puck-drop against the Sudbury Wolves.  Tickets are still available at all ticketmaster locations.

Notes:  Nik Knezic dressed his second game of the season...The IceDogs were 0/9 on the power play ...Attendance was 2765...shots were 46-43 in favour of Niagara...Geoffrey Schemitsch (1G), Mark Visentin (40 Saves), and Freddie Hamilton (1G 1A) were the third, second, and first stars.
